An Amazing Nintendogs Story

I was just checking out a Nintendogs fan website (Nintendogs Website) when I came across this amazing, sad story by Eliza, a member on the site. It teaches a very good life lesson: "don't take things for granted." And remember, I did not write this story, so I am not taking credit for it. Enjoy!

Shiro's Shadow
By Eliza

It was early spring. The kennels had just been cleaned. New barks and scents were scattered, and some old dogs remained. One of the new scents happened to be a young puppy; a pure bred Shiba Inu. She was a true beauty; a pure white coat, sparkling hazel eyes, topped with an adorable personality. But for some reason... she just couldn't smile.
There was an obvious reason. She had been taken from her mother; no more warmth or love. She was scared, too. A new kennel was just so overwhelming for her. Days had passed. She had watched other puppies be taken from the kennel, and held in the arms of a human. This made her wonder, "Will I ever be loved?"
The next day, when she had woken up, she was not in the kennel. No, she was in someone's living room-- a very nice one. There was a small bed, food, water, and some toys. She paced around the room. "What is this place? Where am I?"
Suddenly, a young girl appeared in the doorway. "Aw, are you scared, girl?" she asked in a soothing tone. "I'm Elizabeth; your new owner. You looked so cute when you were sleeping. I was told that you weren't playing with the other puppies. The managers were concerned, and asked me if I would take you home with me. I did... obviously. I was in love with you the second I saw you!"
The puppy looked up at Elizabeth, and for the first time in a long time, she smiled. "Here, let me put this collar on you," Elizabeth said with a grin. She pulled out a mirror. "Do you like it... Shiro?" she asked. The puppy looked in the mirror. "Shiro," she thought, "What a beautiful name... my name."
Elizabeth picked Shiro up off the floor and said, "I'll never let anything or anyone hurt  you. You are my world now. I love you, sweetheart!" Shiro smiled once again. She began to fall asleep in Elizabeth's arms. "You've had a big day today, Shiro. You need your beauty sleep, yes you do!" She placed Shiro on her cushy dog bed, turned off the light, then went upstairs. Shiro fell asleep, and before she knew it, it was morning.
"Good morning," Elizabeth greeted Shiro with a smile, "We've got some training to do... lots of it!" Shiro was confused. "Training? Competitions? Why?" whined Shiro. Elizabeth just smiled, and put a leash onto Shiro. "Let's go, girl"
When they got outside Elizabeth started to run, and Shiro could barely keep up with her. She was out of breath by the time they reached the gym. It started out easy. "I chase the lure: I get treats," but then it got harder. They practiced for hours; nonstop. Shiro whined again, "Can we please take a break?"
Elizabeth, for the first time, frowned at Shiro. "Very well. Let's get you outside before you go in here." After a nice patch of grass they headed twords the cafee. "Mmm... Mont Blanc!" barked Shiro. Then after a nice talk with her neighbor she leashed up Shiro once again. They were now headed for the park. "No, please! I'm tired!" Shiro threw a fit.
She just couldn't win. They practiced for half an hour, and then Shiro layed down. "What on Earth do you think you're doing, Missy? We have a Disk Competition to win! You'll never get anywhere by lying around! Get up, Shiro!"
Shiro slowly walked to Elizabeth. "Take me home, owner. Please." she said with a weak voice. "UGH!" yelled Elizabeth. She held Shiro's leash in her right hand, and their disk in her left. They finally were home. Shiro looked up at Elizabeth; tail wagging. "You are such a disapointment," uttered Elizabeth.  This time she didn't tuck-in Shiro, turn off the light, or anything. She just went upstairs. That night... Shiro cried herself to sleep.
The next morning Elizabeth walked to Shiro's bed, and noticed she was not there. She paniced. A noise came from the pantry. She walked into the room to find Shiro tearing at the dog food bag. "I'm starving!" cried Shiro. "No. You cannot have anything to eat until you win those competitions" Elizabeth scolded. "This is insane," Shiro thought.
It was the day of the cometition. Elizabeth had--finally--given her food, water, and a refreshing bath. Shiro's left ear was complemented by a beautiufl pink rose. Her new collar had pretty pink lace that shined in the lighting. Yet... Shiro was not as happy as she once was. What ever happened to the Elizabeth she knew?
3...2...1...START! Elizabeth threw the disk all the way to nine yards. Shiro caught it, and gave it back... caught it... gave it back... caught it... gave it back... TIME'S UP! The judged added up everyone's points. Shiro had won. Elizabeth cheered, and rubbed Shiro's belly. "Hehe, that tickles!" Shiro barked joyfully. Elizabeth smiled.
Then it was time for the lure competition. Shiro was shaking with fear. "You have to win, Shiro. You have to!" she chanted to herself. The race started. Elizabeth pulled the lure in quickly. The other dogs had already won the Master's cup; It couldn't be that bad.
Half way through the race Shiro began to get tired. "You have to win... you have to win... you have to win... you... hav... to... wi--" Shiro passed-out. People in the crowed began to scream at Elizabeth. "What kind of owner are you? Has she been eating? You've worked the poor girl too hard! Show the old girl some love!"
Elizabeth picked Shiro up, and looked into her 'sparkling hazel eyes' one last time. Tears ran down Elizabeth's face. "You worthless piece of trash," she muttered, "We lost..." When the two got home Elizabeth locked Shiro in a cage, turned off the light, and shut the door. It was pure darkness.
"Let me out! Please, oh please! I promise I will do good, and make you happy, Elizabeth! Please! I beg of you!" Shiro cried. It was cold, and lonely. All she could hear was the thunderstorm outside. Shiro had always been afraid of thunderstorms. "Mother...," Shiro whispered, "I miss you so"
Suddenly the door opened. Elizabeth stepped in, not bothering to turn the light on. "No one will ever love you. No one has ever loved you. I never loved you."
Elizabeth grabbed the cage's handle, and the two walked out of the house, and into her car. She started the car, and turned up the radio. "Never mind I'll find someone like you-u. I wish nothing but the best for you, too. Don't forget me, I beg," she quickly turned the radio off. They arrived at a small building-- a rather fancy one.
"Yes, how may I help you?" a man's voice asked. "Yes," Elizabeth replied, "I would like to... um... here." Elizabeth placed Shiro's cage on top of the desfront. "Goodbye, you worthless, ungreatful, stupid, beautiful, innocent, loving animal," it was official; she just couldn't be loved, "I will always cherrish our memories."
"Elizabeth? Where are you going? Elizabeth? Come back! Elizabeth!" Shiro's cries were no use. There was no more Elizabeth. Inside she felt like whining, biting, barking, howling, accepting that she wasn't coming back, and yet-- she loved Elizabeth. No matter what cruel things she could have done... for some reason... she loved her.
Shiro was taken through a long hallway to find a brown metal door. Out of nowhere... scents of other dogs fill her nose, she hears new barks, and she smells the fragrance of a freshly cleaned kennel once again.
"It is time to move on. I will find another owner. They will love me like no other. I will be happy. I will be... happy..."

*Thank you for reading my little story. I really do miss Shiro. I was really cruel to her; all I wanted her to do was win competitions. I wouldn't feed or love her. She was underweight. and unhappy. I don't know why I was so mean. I loved her, and deleting her was a 100% mistake. I could have made things better. It shouldn't have mattered whether she one or not... I was selfish. I think about her a lot :'(
I guess the whole theme behind this story is: Don't Take Things For Granted!
